Blau Conversation Starter for the Day

Sometimes I find myself in the middle of interesting, and sometimes completely irrelevant topical conversations with my daughter Savannah.  I'm not sure how our brains take us to these islands of "what if . . ." conversation starters, and yet we end up there.  Today the questions was "If you could invite any celebrity over to dinner, who would it be and why?"

My answer:

Benedict Cumberbatch!

Why?  I don't really know.  Maybe it's because I love the BBC version of Sherlock Holmes where Cumberbatch plays a really quirky Sherlock.  Somehow I feel like that is the sort of personality that would shine through in a dinner conversation.  It would make things interesting.  Plus . . . the British accent!  Need I say more?

And as a late update 1/13/12:  Check out this article on the huffingtonpost.com to see just why this guy would be such an awesome dinner guest:  Benedict Cumberbatch Speaks Out About Hostage Situation In South Africa.  Way cool -- scary, but cool!

Savannah's choice?

Morgan Freeman
Alright.  I'll admit.  This is a good choice.  Funny, intelligent, amazing acting experiences.  He's met Nelson Mandela and played him in a movie. He doesn't have a British accent, but his voice just screams "gravitas." I looked up some video clips to show here, but nothing really fit the bill, and I think everyone has seen him act in something.

And our honorable mention goes to . . .

Bill Cosby
Just for the stories he could tell.  Priceless, and so funny. Plus, it seems like he wouldn't judge the chaos of my house too harshly.  Bonus!

One of my favorite Bill Cosby stories:

So it was a completely useless sort of conversation, but it is one more piece revealed in the puzzle that further explains what makes us tick, I think.

  1. Bill Cosby would be a fun dinner guest. I can picture him causing trouble-- like a food fight with the kids!

Gosh, I feel so out of reality when it comes to celebrities these days (other than, you know, Dora) I don't know who I would invite. I will have to think on that!
