Well, I ended up deleting my last blog entry. I think it was okay, but I thought the tone didn't quite fit the others of this blog ... a little too ranty. So I saved it for my own re-reading in the future but took it off the blog for general perusal.
Instead I thought I'd just put up a quick post with some pictures from Homecoming 2013 ... our last with Savannah at home. (tears) Here you go:
The Parade
This was Spencer's first homecoming parade as a marcher in the high school band. I thought he looked great.
There is a bit of a story explaining why Savannah looks like she is going to die in this picture. Apparently less than ten minutes before step off time Savannah needed to hurry up and run across the Waynesville park to get to the bathrooms. She ran like a banshee, struggled to figure out how to get her crazy uniform off, ran back, discovered her gauntlets were missing, ran back towards the restrooms, found her gauntlets on the ground as she ran (tender mercy!), and then arrived back where the band was just stepping off. She was exhausted and overheated, and she still had to march the entire parade route. That explains the red face here.
This is the float that Katie helped build for the Sixth Grade Center each week in art club. I thought it was the best float out there. They ended up coming in second. Thayer Elementary came in first. Their float didn't look as nice, but they had a cool special effect where their float shot out confetti.
Here is Katie marching in the parade with the Sixth Grade Center. We didn't recognize her at all because of her painted face. Luckily I noticed her hair after she passed us, so I quickly ran down the road to get a good up-close shot of her.
I don't know how I ended up taking picture of the parade and neglected to take pictures of all of us as we watched. I did get this indirect one of Hyrum waving at his teacher, Mrs. Vergara. JoJo is on his right, and you can see a sliver of Minsy's hair on his left. I didn't get a picture of Nandy and Uncle Ryan who also watched with us. I love it that Nandy's house is so conveniently located so that we can park there and then walk to the parade route without having to deal with traffic and parking issues.
The Game
And I guess by "The Game" what I really mean is "The Band," since that is what I am there to see. I do enjoy the actual game, but my enthusiasm is saved up for the band since Savannah and Spencer are marching.
This is the beginning of the band's program is kind of neat. The tubas play a sustained note as they kneel at the head of the band, surrounded by the color guard holding umbrellas. Savannah is on the left hand side of this picture.
Here is Savannah standing tall as she marches. It has got to be crazy difficult to lug that tuba around all the time.
Spencer is always toward the back, so it is almost impossible to get a good picture of him. He is the trombone that is in the back with the smaller bell on his instrument. He did great!
Here is one of the final band formations. Their show is a lot better than last year. I am glad to be in an area with such a good music program.
So there you have it ... a tiny snippet of our homecoming festivities this year.
